Parent Education/Movie Night!

Tonight (March 28) at 6:30 p.m., the school will show “Screenagers,” a multi-award winning documentary about how adults can help young people navigate through the perils of the digital age. (See this link for more information: screenagersmovie.) We will be showing the movie in the school library. Thanks to Sonya Droguett for helping make this event happen.

Missoula Children’s Theatre “The Tortoise versus the Hare” Tryouts – April 3rd

Tryouts for this year’s Missoula Children’s Theatre production of “The Tortoise Versus the Hare” will be held after school on Monday, April 3rd. Students in Kindergarten – 8th Grade are encouraged to tryout regardless of skill or experience. This is a one-week long after- school program that is FREE to all students who participate. Approximately 50-60 children will be cast and while there is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play, most years all who audition play a role in the production.

Parish Lenten Activities

Join the Saint Vincent de Paul Parish for a Lenten Fish Fry this Friday, March 31st from 5 to 7 PM in the Holy Family Hall prior to the Parish Stations of the Cross. A nominal fee will be charged. Students from the school will lead Stations of the Cross in the church at
7 PM.

The Parish will also show a Lenten movie on April 3rd (Michaelangelo, The Pivotal Players by Bishop Robert Barron). The movies start at 7 PM in the Holy Family Hall.

Student Congratulations!

Congratulations to the following students:

First grader Landon Ouellett’s Smokey Bear/Woodsy Owl Poster won first place in the Rocky Mountain Region. His poster will now move on to the national contest. Excellent job, LANDON!

Fourth grader Chloe Mason and seventh grader Jackson Green participated in the Wasatch Front Regional Spelling Contest this past weekend representing Davis, Weber, Utah, and Salt Lake Counties. The participants represented the top 1% of spellers from those counties. Both Chloe and Jackson did better than the majority in attendance. Nice work!

Eighth grader Nicholas Falkner and seventh grader Kate Borgmeier brought home a winning performance at the Salt Lake Valley Science & Engineering Fair this past weekend. Nicholas won 1st Place in Engineering: Electrical & Computer Science Division, as well as a specialty award from the Utah Department of Transportation for Creativity and Innovation in Transportation. Kate won 3rd Place in the Plant Sciences Division. Great job!

Chess Club

Chess Club is open to students in grades 3 through 8. Those who do not know how to play may come and learn from other students and from our moderator, Aimee Toner. The club will meet from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on the following Fridays: March 31, April 28, May 5, May 12, and May 19.

After-School Karate

St. Vincent will host 4 after-school karate sessions on Mondays – April 24, May 1, May 8, and May 15 – from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. The classes are open to students in grades 1 through 8. Reading Auction

Rewards for Middle School: Reading Auction!
Donation are now being accepted from middle school for this exciting May 10th event. Students who bring in an item, with their name attached, will receive a prize at the auction. Volunteers are also needed.

School Board Nominations

The St. Vincent de Paul School Board is seeking new members! The School Board serves as an advisory body to the administration and contributes through four committees: Faith Formation, Strategic Planning, Communications, and Health and Safety.

Scott Plays Scott

In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the death of American Composer and King of Ragtime, Scott Joplin, our band and choir teacher Scott Larrabee will perform the first of four recitals this Saturday April 1st, 2017 at
7 PM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1385 Spring Lane in Holladay. The recital series will include the entire ragtime catalog and songs of Scott Joplin. Admission is free, but a freewill offering will be taken up to benefit Sr. Angela’s assistance program for the poor.

Rice Bowl Collection

Students can bring their Rice Bowl collections during Mass on Fridays. The money goes to Catholic Relief Services.
