Volunteers Needed

We are looking for volunteers to help with clean-up after the Parish Picnic. Adults and students are welcome. Volunteer time counts for required PIP hours. Students may count hours towards their service hour requirement. Please contact Ildiko (801-272-9216) to volunteer.

Spirit Dress

Spirit Day is Tuesday, September 25th. The theme for spirit day is St. Vincent spirit wear. If you do not have any St. Vincent spirit wear, you can stop by the school office to purchase a t-shirt or you can wear any St. Vincent team jersey or gym shirt. You may wear shorts or jeans with your t-shirt. Shorts need to be mid-thigh or longer and jeans may not have holes or tears.

Suicide Prevention Presentation

September is National Suicide Prevention Month. The Catholic Church recognizes the dignity of every human person. As part of our school mission, we recognize that every member of our community is a valued child of God. Thus, it is important to initiate dialogue about suicide prevention. St. Vincent de Paul is happy to welcome Mr. Brandon Heugly back to our campus to lead us in talking about this important topic. Mr. Heughly is a licensed clinical social worker and therapist. On Wednesday, September 26th, he will present a student workshop (Grades 5-8) during the day, and from 6:00-7:00 PM he will give a presentation for parents and other members of the community in our school library.

If you are unable to make the presentation at St. Vincent, Judge Memorial is hosting a parent program about suicide prevention on October 3.

Faith Formation

The School Board’s Faith Formation Committee will be providing you with monthly ideas for living the liturgical calendar at home with your family. The blast email each month will have a downloadable activity sheet from September Family Activities.

Free Basketball Clinic

Tom Hicks (credentials listed below) has offered to coach free basketball clinics for the 5th through 8th grade girls and boys in the St. Vincent’s gym from 7:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursdays starting September 27 and continuing as long as there is enough interest (possibly until basketball practices start in November). Tom approached me with this idea because he loves basketball and loves to coach. He comes highly recommended; you can see from his experience below that we are fortunate to have this opportunity. Please let me know by Monday, September 24 if you are interested. Parents are welcome to stay and watch the clinic.

Children’s Liturgy Program

The Children’s Liturgy Program will start again at St. Vincent de Paul Parish on Sunday, Sept. 30th.

Children’s Liturgy takes place during the 11:30 a.m. Mass on most Sundays. The kids are dismissed from services immediately prior to the readings to attend a 20-minute class in the downstairs classroom or Holy Family Hall. The class is led by a parish or parent volunteer and includes an age-appropriate Gospel reading along with a related craft or activity.

This is a good way for the kids to meet other children from the Parish, learn more about their faith, and get their wiggles out in a kid-friendly environment. We encourage your kids to come any time they wish. The program is open to kids ages 3-7.

Finally, we could really use a few more parent volunteers to teach or assist with the program – it’s not hard, we work around your schedule, and it counts toward PIP hours. If you would be interested in helping, please send me an email or text and be sure to visit our table at the Parish picnic.

Thanks!
