This is a reminder that we will have Mass tomorrow, Wednesday, September 27th and Friday, September 29th. Full dress is required for Mass.
The 8th grade class will be collecting money during the St. Vincent de Paul Feast Day Mass tomorrow. The money collected will go towards relief efforts for the hurricane victims.
Suicide Prevention Presentation
Tonight is the Suicide Prevention Presentation. Taryn Aiken, Co-Chair for the Utah Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, will give a presentation to parents at St. Vincent School in the school library from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Please let Kat know if you would like to attend by emailing her at email@example.com. Any parent attending will be able to use the time towards their PIP hours.
Class presentations for the middle school students will also be given by Ms. Aiken on another date.
Some parents have asked about the children’s safety in light of the parish giving out assistance to homeless people (or those who are struggling financially) during school hours. I would like to describe some of the security measures that the school uses:
- The teachers and staff are vigilant and communicate to the office and me any suspicious activity. I asked those who supervise on the playground to always have their phones in case something needs to be reported. We report to the Unified Police Department any activity that we see as a potential threat to students’ safety and they respond immediately.
- The entire campus is locked down with security doors.
- The school continually consults with Officer Bruno of the Unified Police Department on security issues. Officer Bruno (and his police cruiser) are often a visible presence at the school.
- We have 32 video cameras monitoring activity on campus. The images are displayed in the main office throughout the school day.
- Those wishing to enter the school must be buzzed in by the office personnel.
- Students have been instructed to not open doors for adults wishing to enter the school (unless the adult is known to them).
- We ask coaches or others volunteering in the school to never prop open outside doors so they can reenter them. Anytime we see a security door open, we close it.
Please contact the main office (801-277-6702) if you see anything suspicious during school hours.
Fr. Norman is aware of the concerns and wanted me to tell you that, while providing charity is an integral part of our parish/school mission that he and his staff take every precaution they can to ensure the safety of everyone on campus.

The countdown to the Casino Royale has already begun and WE NEED YOU! The development director is looking for 15 volunteers to call our past donors to solicit donations for the live and silent auctions. These are friendly calls to past donors (no telemarketing!) It is an easy way to earn your PIP hours from you home and on your own schedule. Please contact the Therese Clay (email@example.com or 801-527-2043) if you are able to assist.
Standards-Based Report Cards (K-3)
Students in kindergarten through 3rd grade will receive a standards-based report card for English-Language Arts, Math, and Study Skills. This means that, instead of receiving one overall grade for the subjects of language, reading, spelling, math, and study skills, students will receive a grade for each individual standard that is assessed each quarter within those subjects. The standards that the diocese is using are M (Meets Standard), A (Approaching Standard), and N (Needs Intervention). The logistics of transitioning to this new grading system and to RenWeb (the diocese’s new grade recording system) have been very difficult. Please bear with us as we adjust to two new systems at once. More information will be sent to you as we get closer to the end of the quarter (October 19).
