Suicide Prevention Presentation – September 26th

September is National Suicide Prevention Month. The Catholic Church recognizes the dignity of every human person. As part of our school mission, we recognize that every member of our community is a valued child of God. Thus, it is important to initiate dialogue about suicide prevention. St. Vincent de Paul is happy to welcome Mr. Brandon Heugly back to our campus to lead us in talking about this important topic. Mr. Heughly is a licensed clinical social worker and therapist. On Wednesday, September 26th, he will present a student workshop (Grades 5-8) during the day, and from 6:00-7:00 PM he will give a presentation for parents and other members of the community in our school library.

If you are unable to make the presentation at St. Vincent, Judge Memorial is hosting a parent program about suicide prevention on October 3.

Lifetouch Pictures

Please note that we are sending home your child’s school pictures today. If you wish to have your child retake their pictures or if you missed picture day, please note retakes are on October 16th. (Please have your child bring in his/her packet to school on October 16 if your child is having retakes.) Please contact the school office with any questions.

Saint Vincent de Paul Feast Day Mass – September 27th

In honor of St. Vincent’s feast day, we will have Mass on Thursday, September 27 at 9:00am in the gym. After Mass, the students will gather in their school families to play “getting to know you” games and to have a treat to celebrate our patron’s special day. (We are serving Rice Krispy Treats. Please let us know if your child cannot have Rice Krispy Treats so we can arrange for an alternate treat. They contain milk and soy, but no nuts.)
There will still be Mass as usual on Friday at 9:00am.

Free Basketball Clinic

Tom Hicks (credentials listed below) has offered to coach free basketball clinics for the 5th through 8th grade girls and boys in the St. Vincent’s gym from 7:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursdays starting September 27 and continuing as long as there is enough interest (possibly until basketball practices start in November). Tom approached me with this idea because he loves basketball and loves to coach. He comes highly recommended; you can see from his experience below that we are fortunate to have this opportunity. Please let me know by 4:00pm today if you are interested. Parents are welcome to stay and watch the clinic.

Recording PIP Hours

As you know. each family is required to complete PIP hours. This year we have changed how to record your PIP hours. You will record your PIP hours in Parents Web. Below are the steps on how to record your PIP hours.

  1. Login to Parents Web.
  2. Click on Family Information.
  3. Click on Service Hours.
  4. Click on Add Service Hours and complete information.

Please contact the school office with any questions. You may click here to access the Parent/Student Handbook for the PIP requirements.

Children’s Liturgy Program

The Children’s Liturgy Program will start again at St. Vincent de Paul Parish on Sunday, Sept. 30th.

Children’s Liturgy takes place during the 11:30 a.m. Mass on most Sundays. The kids are dismissed from services immediately prior to the readings to attend a 20-minute class in the downstairs classroom or Holy Family Hall. The class is led by a parish or parent volunteer and includes an age-appropriate Gospel reading along with a related craft or activity.

This is a good way for the kids to meet other children from the Parish, learn more about their faith, and get their wiggles out in a kid-friendly environment. We encourage your kids to come any time they wish. The program is open to kids ages 3-7.

Finally, we could really use a few more parent volunteers to teach or assist with the program – it’s not hard, we work around your schedule, and it counts toward PIP hours. If you would be interested in helping, please send me an email or text and be sure to visit our table at the Parish picnic.
