Longtime staffers retire from St. Vincent de Paul School

SALT LAKE CITY —Giselle Airriess and Stephanie Garlinghouse are retiring from St. Vincent de Paul School after 19 and 16 years of service, respectively.

Airriess had been the school’s librarian teacher since 1999. As a reading tutor since 2001, she was also on the literacy team and loved seeing students embrace reading.

“Mrs. Airriess is loved by students and parents, and will be greatly missed,” Principal Gary Green said. “She is the consummate school librarian.”

Originally from Canada, Airriess enjoys traveling to visit family. She and her husband, Andy, have two grown daughters, one in England and the other in California. Her goal at the school: Provide the right book, at the right time, with a smile!

“I look forward to spending time with family, after embracing the community here as my family,” Airriess said.

Garlinghouse started at Saint Vincent de Paul School in 1996 helping with a literacy program called Writing to Read. In 2000, she started as a second grade aide, and continued until 2006. After taking some time off to enjoy being a Saint Vincent mother with four boys attending the school from 1992 until 2011, she returned as the second grade aide at Saint Vincent in 2012.

“I have never met a greater supporter of Catholic education than Stephanie,” Principal Green said. “As diocesan school board president and a diocesan school board representative, Judge football team supporter, or just speaking to prospective parents, Stephanie always promotes and acknowledges the best in Catholic schools.”

“My experiences at St. Vincent School and Parish have given me memories that I will cherish always,” Garlinghouse said.
